About Atelier Gaasterland
Frisian art and vintage
The atelier is located in the private garden of Joop, Rik, and Iebele, who alternate their time in the nearby bungalow on the same property with their residence in Amsterdam.
Joop, Rik, and Iebele have worked for many years in both the creative and fashion sectors, and their love for Frisian art, vintage furniture, and design pieces is reflected in the Atelier: the ceramics are from local potters. You’ll also find designs from Flinke Vintage in Hemelum, and the various sheepskins come from the only sheepskin tannery in our country, Van Buren from Bolsward. These local finds are effortlessly combined with works by the Belgian artist Eva Claessens and the Amsterdam artist San Ming, glassware from Finnish Iittala, and Moroccan carpets from Paul Lelieveld.
Amenities and Comforts
Atelier Gaasterland is primarily suitable for two people; if you wish to come in a different group size, an exception can sometimes be made. Please contact us regarding this. Unfortunately, pets are not allowed.
In the atelier, you’ll have all the comforts you need; there’s a spacious living area with various seating options and a wood-burning stove. In the kitchen, you’ll find all the necessary appliances, including a Nespresso machine with a milk frother. The large Piet Hein Eek table is perfect for working, reading, and dining, and in the bedroom, there’s a king-size Auping bed.
Bed linens, towels, a hairdryer, and care products from Ajen care are provided. And if you want to explore Friesland, a lovely list of Joop, Rik, and Iebele’s favorite Frisian spots is ready for you.
Culinary Delights & Kite Surfing
Oudemirdum is located in the Gaasterland region, a wooded area between Lemmer and Stavoren, and close to the IJsselmeer. The village itself has only 1,395 inhabitants, but it has three restaurants, a small supermarket, a butcher, a baker, and a drugstore – in other words, you can get everything locally. Need more? Balk is the closest town with more amenities.
Many people come to Atelier Gaasterland for the peace and quiet and to do nothing, but in the vicinity of Atelier Gaasterland, you can also engage in sports activities; cycling, hiking, renting a (sailing) boat, kitesurfing, or golfing.
Water sports enthusiasts sail from the Wyldemerk in Oudemirdum to Balk, and then through Jachthaven Lutz to arrive at the Slotermeer – the perfect place for paddleboarding, fishing, boating, and sailing.
Kitesurfing is fantastic on the IJsselmeer at Paviljoen ’t Mar.
